There are long and short versions of this story. The short version is I was informed that I would never conceive a baby naturally, without infertility medicine and/or pharmaceutical intervention, and I did. That was before I had ever heard about the Insulite PCOS System. Insulite PCOS and Dr. Mary Shackelton changed my and my family's life by giving us another baby girl and we all lived happily ever after.
The longer version of the story would tell the frustrating, seemingly endless journey to understand my body, my moods, my infertility, and decades of questions.
My Story... Looking back now I can recall when it all started for me. I was 12 years old when I used to get these terrible headaches. I was supposed to be starting my period as a young woman then but never did. My hormones were off balance. I never started a period on my own at all after that and when I was 23 my mother finally took me to a doctor to get help who then put me on Birth Control. I could never stay on them because they made me feel so horrible. The mood swings were so awful so I have missed many periods over the years.
I was fortunate enough to have had a child four years ago finally at the age of 35 and afterwards got help for why I was not having my own periods. I was diagnosed with PCOS. The discovery was great now knowing what I had after all these years but after many tests and discoveries I learned that there was no cure and nothing that I could do about it. I was told to go back onto Birth Control again. I wasn't going to have that. I couldn't do that again.
I discovered that I had PCOS while trying to get pregnant with my second
child. I was diagnosed by my OB-GYN after an ultrasound. The diagnosis
was an epiphany for me. All the years of irregular periods, annoying
facial hair, hypoglycemia and a thinning hairline finally made sense.
The only piece of the puzzle that didn’t fit was that I haven’t
struggled with my weight. I am 6’0" and 150 lbs and have a healthy BMI.
My doctor prescribed Metformin and monitored Clomid cycles and soon I
became pregnant and had a healthy baby boy.
About a year after the baby’s birth, I noticed my PCOS symptoms were
getting worse. The facial hair growth was out of control and my hair
was getting thinner. I was tired all the time, moody and was
experiencing a lot of hypoglycemic symptoms. I purchased a glucometer
and began monitoring my blood sugars. I realized that they were
drastically fluctuating whenever I ate simple carbohydrates.
Please recognize that, because of individual variability and the severity of your condition, women achieve varying results and in different time frames. As many of our testimonials indicate, some women get an almost immediate response. We do not want to create false hope because PCOS is a serious condition and in most cases, results will take longer to achieve and may vary from person to person.
