Default High levels with a minor infection?

Hi,
one if my freind has been on background insulin for 2 weeks now, started on 10 units once a day and now on 18.
The insulin is working (orals meds didn't) and his levels are slowly decreasing. They are still very high, but the nurse wants to bring them down slowly to avoid hypos.

I understand that illness will push blood glucose levels up, and have seen this happen with Gary previously. Now, in the last 48 hours or so he's started with a minor infection - no raised temperature, loss of appetite etc.

His levels have risen from low teens to late teens.
Would you expect such a minor infection to push his levels up so much?

A minor infection shouldn't cause blood sugars to increase a lot. However, I suppose the body has all kinds of surprises up its sleeves. Lack of stress and sleep can also cause sugars to become overly elevated. Also, watch that the infection doesn't become a BIG infection, rather than a small one.

You did not mention specific numbers, so it is hard for me to gauge where your friend is at. It's good his insulin is being raised slowly- hypoglycemia usually isn't as much a worry with the basal insulin, but it's always good to be cautious anyway.

Question diabetis can be solved by yoga

Yoga is a way of life, an art of righteous living or an integrated system for the benefit of the body, mind and inner spirit. This art originated, was
perfected and practiced in India thousands of years ago. The references to yoga are available in 'Upanishads' and 'Puranas' composed by Indian Aryans in the later Vedic and post- Vedic period. The main credit for systematizing yoga goes to Patanjali who wrote 'Yoga Sutra', two thousand Years ago. He described the principles of the full eight fold yogic discipline. He composed the treatise in brief code words known as 'Sutras'. 'Yoga Sutra' is the most important basic text on Yoga. yoga retreat It is through this basic treatise that the essential message of yoga spread throughout the world.
