Hello Dr Sari can you tell me the best way the get ride of the acne on my tommy it looksto say the least
Hi Jessica,
Is the acne related to your PCOS (in other words, I am just checking that you do in fact have PCOS). If so, then you'd want to address acne on your belly the same way you'd approach improving acne on the face: by trying to get your hormones back in balance. Typically with PCOS we see women having high levels of androgens (male hormones, like testosterone and DHEA-s). Sometimes also there is high estrogen and low progesterone, but these levels of hormones actually vary alot according to the individual woman with PCOS.
Interestingly, the high androgen levels are caused by insulin resistance. So to properly address acne, it's a good idea to treat the root cause: the insulin resistance leading to hormone imbalance.
In addition to that approach, it's good to use some palliative methods like reducing fried foods (this works for some people but not others), keeping the area clean and dry, rotating skin care products and experimenting until you find the best products for you, etc.
As far as helping your hormone balance, some herbs that reduce testosterone and otherwise balance sex hormones are saw palmetto, nettles root, vitex, flax seed. Milk thistle can help the liver process hormones better, and improving liver health can really help improve skin health. Foods that support liver function include artichoke, beets, carrots, leafy greens like kale and spinach, and bitter greens like dandelion leaf. You can read more about herbs to balance hormones here:

To reverse insulin resistance, the dietary approach is essential. This includes reducing or eliminating refined carbohydrates such as bread, cookies, pasta, pastry, sugar, etc. Certain nutrients can also help improve insulin levels and cellular function: chromium and vanadium among others. The above link also has information about insulin resistance.
I hope this information is helpful! Write back any time.

I've been using Aubrey Organics skin care line for oily skin, and it has been the best for me so far. I've tried thousands of different systems for my acne, and this helps my skin the best. And I've switched to natural sulfate and paraben free hair care products as well. I'm pretty sure sulfates make my back break out. For the shower, I've been using One with Nature bath soaps and I love them! Natural skin and body care is way better for you because your skin absorbs everything you put on it. I've never tried the Miessence products, but I've heard very good things about their products. Good luck!![]()

I just joined this forum, ive been using the insulite system for 3 months now. i had REALLY bad acne for 7 months (stress + pcos!!) i was on dianette, antibiotics everything! and even though id been taking the insulite tablets for 3 months, and with my acne, there were only slight improvements, although everything else has improved a lot!
I then started drinking camels milk! (yeah found it in the UK you guys in USA are luckier that you have camels in USA!!) exactly 2 weeks later i just woke up one day and all my acne had gone!!!! healed! I think the combination of insulite tablets with a final push from camel milk to help with my insulin resistance.
Im a student doctor so i research everything i take, and there are lots of medical articles published on camel milk. The way it works is it helps diabetics with stabilising blood sugars by increasing insulin senstitivity. You can search Pubmed theres 200 articles on camel milk.
Anyways i still wouldnt have believed it if my acne hadnt completely gone in 2 weeks! my friends have been commenting that my skin is glowing from within. That could be from camel milks fibroblast regenerating properties.
So if your already on the Insulite system, then try adding some camel milk to your diet! you have nothing to lose! its high iron, vitamin C and D and low fat (only 5% in its pure form)
Id really love to hear what Dr Sari thinks of camel milk. please have a look at the research on it and let me know what you think![]()
oh and i forgot to add, my hair!!!! my hair has improved so much since starting the camel milk!!!!!! I had the typical pcos related male pattern hair thinning. its improved so much. I noticed improvements with the insulite tablets with my hair, and then in the last 2 weeks of drinking camel milk, it just feels thicker, healthier and has more volume too!
i think i have found my way to control my pcos, insulite system, low carb diet, excercise and camel milk!![]()
That is fascinating information on camel milk; I am so glad you brought that up! I did a search on PubMed for articles on camel's milk and insulin sensitivity and/or diabetes, as you mentioned. It seems like traditionally in the Middle East (and perhaps India and Pakistan?) camel milk ingestion was said to help Type 1 Diabetes.
Mainly what I found on PubMed is evidence that camel's milk does help Type 1 Diabetes, and the suggestion from one paper was that the mechanism was through increased endogenous insulin production (i.e., insulin made within the body, for those not in medical school).
So Lamia that wouldn't really be necessarily increasing insulin sensitivity, unless you found some other studies that showed that indeed is the mechanism of action. Unless there is some other mechanism at work besides increasing endogenous insulin production, I don't know that one could say based on the research alone that camel's milk would help people with Type 2 Diabetes, insulin resistance, and/or PCOS.
A little background for those readers who might not know: PCOS and Type 2 Diabetes are closely associated with insulin resistance and increased insulin levels, whereas Type 1 Diabetes is associated with decreased insulin levels and we would usually only see insulin resistance later on after years of injected insulin use. Type 1 Diabetes used to be known as juvenile diabetes and is the autoimmune disease where the pancreas' beta cells no longer make insulin so the person must use insulin injections.
Of course, published studies are only part of the picture, in my opinion, and if there are women out there successfully using camel's milk to heal their PCOS and insulin resistance symptoms, I'm all for it!
Thanks again for the info LamiaZafrani, do keep us posted. And if you have any particular citations of studies you want me to look at on camel's milk, please pass them on.
