Hello everyone! I was just diagnosed with PCOS on April 21st. I just turned 18 and have been dealing with PCOS symptoms for four years.
Prior to my PCOS symptoms, I had completely normal periods. I could count on them to be every 30 days... but then in March of 2008, I started missing periods completely. I went 9 months with no sign of ovulation or a period. However, I was fed up with periods and at the time, I just didn't want to be bothered with pap smears and bloodwork and everything that I knew a doctor would want to do. I ignored it, even felt grateful for missing periods.
Last September, I became sexually active. At that point in time, I had already missed two cycles and knew I wouldn't have one again any time soon, so I used it as cheap birth control. My boyfriend left for boot camp in February and I discovered I was pregnant in March.
On the 21st of April when I was 13 weeks and 3 days pregnant, I started having spotting and went to the doctor immediately. An ultrasound revealed that I only had an empty yolk sac, as well as a large cyst on one of my ovaries. My doctor said she was sure I have PCOS and could do the bloodwork to make sure if I wanted. I was sad to hear this, but not surprised; I had done quite a bit of research on PCOS, endometriosis, and anything else that could cause secondary amenorrhea. I knew that PCOS especially could cause a blighted ovum.
I'm disappointed not to be having a baby since my boyfriend and I got pretty excited about it, but I'm grateful that I'm only miscarrying an empty sac. I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to start eating right and get to a healthy weight before I think about trying for a baby again.
So... I hope you enjoyed my story and I hope you all take better care of yourselves than I did.![]()
