I have been on the Insulite PCOS system for almost a month. I had heard that Saw Palmetto can help bring relief to increased irritiblility from the excess testosterone. Can you take a seperate supplment of the Saw Palmetto while you are already taking the PCOS system? If yes how much and what brand? If no, why not?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in and choosing to use the Insulite PCOS System.
You are right saw palmetto can help with the hormone imbalance that we often see in women with PCOS. It actually inhibits an enzyme and prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydroxytestosterone (DHT) which can be responsible for male pattern baldness and excess facial and body hair.
At this point, I would not recommend to increase the saw palmetto, since you have been on the PCOS System for one month. It may take a couple months to start seeing changes. If you don't see any changes in the next month, let me know and we can set up a phone consult and discuss you particular situation and see if any changes can be made to further support you.
After this past month, have you noticed any other changes since beginning? How are you doing with the carb reduction and exercise?
I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for the info on the saw palmetto. I have joined fitness classes at my local community college. I take a hydro-toning (water aerobics) class at 6 am on Wed. and Fri. and on Mon-Wed-Fri I take a regular aerobics class that uses medicine balls, resistence bands and weights. I love the classes and plus they hold me accountable. I hope to soon join a walking club class in my town that will meet on Tuesdays. I have been able to reduce the carbs, however I still seem to struggle with the sweets thing. I am doing better than before I started the system, but I have found that night time I really struggle. So I am taking a knitting class hoping that if I am doing something with my hands at night I will be able to help the cravings(idle hands are evil hands!) I am still struggling with my acne, and irritibility, but I have found that I am not hungry all the time like I was before, and sometimes I forget to eat, and it sometimes feels weird that I am not eating all the time or wanting to eat all the time!
I have been doing research on Almond flour, is that something I can use? What do you recommend?
Thank you!

Wow, you certainly are taking the bull by the horns, so to speak. You are doing great!
Acne can be frustrating. I do feel that this will decrease as you progress. I also think that once your hormones continue to become more balanced you will see changes in mood and your skin. Initially, we can see flare ups and encourage you to drink plenty of water to support the elimination of toxins. Some women experience a detox reaction with the increase in fiber and other support in the PCOS System.
I know evening can be tough for cravings and temptation, so keeping busy can help. I would also have some healthy snacks ready so that if you are hungry you will hopefully choose what you have ready to go. I often keep cut up veggies and hummus around. This can help to satisfy the craving for something crunchy. Now that autumn is upon us I will prefer some almond butter and a crisp apple. As you can see, I like the crunchy snacks. If you like something sweet, you can bake apples or pears and add some cinnamon and chopped almonds or pecans a little bit of butter or other spread.
Regarding almond flour, you can use this as it will be higher in protein and healthy fats. Per 1/4 cup it has 6 grams of protein, 6 grams of carbs and 14 grams of fat.
I hope this helps. We look forward to hearing more.
