:confused:During the last few months I have begun to have issues missing my periods. I went from May 8 to August 8 before I had my period. Once I had it, I bled like a sieve for a week and half. After SEVERAL negitive pregnancy tests nothing could explain what was happening. I have never had that happen before. I have been having my period since I was 14 and I have had one every month since then, until this past summer. I have been on the Insulite System for almost a month and I am still waiting for my September period. (While I know it takes more than a month) What could be happening that all of a sudden I am starting to miss periods for several months at a time?
Any help is apperciated.
Thanks!:D

Hi there,
Thanks for contacting us!
The first question to ask when a woman stops menstruating is, is she pregnant? It sounds like you have ruled that out!
Secondly, several lifestyle/environmental factors can affect menstruation, including: loss of a significant amount of weight, anorexia and bulimia, extreme exercise, and extreme stress.
Finally, there are a host of other reasons why menstruation stops, including menopause (which is a natural phenomenon) and other hormonal changes that would be more indicative of a disease state.
This is where the tests come in that your doctors will need to do. They will do a blood test to check your LH, FSH, prolactin, and possibly other hormones too. They might also want to perform imaging studies of your uterus and ovaries.
One way to tell if you are ovulating or not is by doing what we call Basal Body Temperature (BBT) monitoring. Have your doctors spoken to you about this? Throughout the month, our body temperature varies depending on where we are in our menstrual cycle. By monitoring your temperature, you can roughly tell how your hormones are working and if you are ovulating.
Were you diagnosed with or suspect that you have PCOS? If so, then the fact that you have stopped menstruating is very characteristic of PCOS.
The Insulite PCOS System was designed to help women with PCOS improve their health by reversing insulin resistance (the underlying cause of PCOS), correcting the hormonal imbalances, and improving the symptoms of PCOS.
I'm glad to hear that you have already started the System! Please do contact me with additional questions or concerns.

Thank you Dr. Shana,
No I have not lost a significant amount of weight, I quite my EMS job in Detroit, on May 16 so that majorly dropped my stress levels!! I am just so confused! My body will act like I am going to get my period, I will get puffy, irritiable, and cravings, and cervical mucous, and then, nothing. I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 18 and I am now 26. Even though I have had PCOS since then I have always had a period every month since I was 14 until the last 5 months. I had endometriosis, and a laproscopy almost 2 years ago, and have had no problems with that since my lap. My husband and I are just aching for a child, my husband whom is 35 is wondering if he will be 70 by the time he is a daddy! Yes I have heard of BBT, we were doing natural family planning when we were first married which will be 2 years October 7, I would like to start monitoring that again, but I am not getting my period so I can start! So I am confused and frustrated. Could it be that I have started fitness classes Sept. 8 and my body is on a diff schedule with the classes and the PCOS Insulite system? I have found a naturalpathic doctor in my area, should I just make an appointment?
Thank you for your help and any ideas!

It's great to hear from you again! Continuing to exercise along with using the PCOS System should help to initiate regular cycles. It will take some time, though. We recommend staying on the System for a minimum of 6 months. I think it's a great idea to make an appointment with a Naturopathic Doctor. Just be sure, he or she is a licensed doctor who attended a 4 year Naturopathic School.
Please keep in touch! :)
