I was diagnosed with PCOS 2 years ago. The only treatment my doctor has given me is birth control. I have been gaining a lot of weight and I just cant do exercise. I am always really tired and depressed. Does PCOS ever dissappear with treatment or is it something I will be struggling with forever? Does birth control affect me if I take it for a long period of time? I have a lot of questiions and concerns and I dont know what to do. My mom tells me to get into treatment to have a baby and after that that everything is going to change. If i have a baby, does PCOS disappear? Thanks for taking the time to read my concerns.

Dear friend,
Thanks so much for your questions!
We cannot say for sure that PCOS is a curable disease. Conventional medicine asserts that PCOS is incurable. However, we can say that insulin resistance is a reversible condition, and insulin resistance is one of the underlying causes of PCOS. Therefore, by removing this underlying cause of PCOS we would expect your experience of the PCOS to greatly improve. Also, many women diagnosed with PCOS are able to conceive successfully, however, having a baby does not cause PCOS to go away.
Regarding the birth control pill, synthetic exogenous (found outside your body) hormones can affect your body's ability to endogenously produce the hormones on its own. In addition, there is research supporting the notion that birth control pills can negatively impact women's cardiovascular systems.
I hope to hear from you again! :)
