Hi Dr. Sari,

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. My main symptoms are irregular periods and acne. I can deal with the irregular periods, but I am very self conscious about the acne.

Is there anything I can do to minimize the outbreaks or stop them completely?

I am concerned about using creams or taking antibiotics long term because I have heard they may increase my chances of cancer.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there, thanks for posting! Sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis of PCOS but don't worry, there is plenty you can do to look and feel better and prevent complications. Take some time to look over the following website to learn all about PCOS: www.pcos.insulitelabs.com.
About the acne, some simple things you can try are to minimize junk foods, especially sugar and greasy foods. You probably know that already. You can also try to emphasize eating foods that are good for the liver, like dandelion leaves, artichokes, carrots, dark leafy greens, and beets. Acne, and many other skin conditions, are the skin's way of letting you know there is an imbalance inside the body, so putting the right things INTO your body can make a big difference. That imbalance could be hormonal (likely in PCOS) or a need for your body to detoxify, for instance. Other people might have food sensitivities that show up through the skin, and avoiding common allergens (like dairy and wheat) would help in that case.
Have you thought about using the Insulite PCOS System? You can read about it on the website mentioned above. The System helps to reverse the insulin resistance that underlies PCOS, and also helps to correct the hormonal imbalance seen in PCOS. The Insulite PCOS System is comprised of nutrients, herbs, diet and exercise suggestions, and customer support all designed to work together to help heal PCOS, including the 2 symptoms you mentioned of acne and irregular menses.
The other factor you might consider is switching to an all-natural skin care line. Some brands that I like are Lily Organics, Hauschka, Aubrey Organics, and LeFP. These use non-chemical, organic ingredients.
