I have been experience androgenic alopecia since I was 21, due to my pcos. Even though I exercise, eat a low carb diet, and take Yasmin, my hair is still thinning and looking rather transparent. Has anyone found anything that actually works for this??? Thanks.

Hi Allison,
It is nice to hear from you. I hope that you are well.
Honestly, the androgenic symptoms of PCOS can be difficult to control and get a handle on. Also, depending on how long you have been using the Yasmin, may be why you are not yet seeing the desired changes. It can take a few months before changes begin with birth control used to control androgen symptoms.
Have other reasons for hair loss been investigated? These can include issues such as hypothyroidism, anemia, extreme stress, vitamin and mineral deficiencies to name a few. If these have been investigated and it is most likely PCOS, it may just take time. You already know the importance of a low carb diet and exercise. I encourage you to stick with it.
Have I mentioned the book, The Natural Solution for PCOS and Infertility by Dr. Nancy Dunne, ND? This can be a bit more strict when it comes to dietary dietary support for PCOS. You might want to check it out as it can further support the work you are doing.
There are herbs that can be useful in addition to the ones that are used in our System but use would depend on the person, symptoms, labs, etc. In the PCOS System, we have included the ones that have been used traditionally (saw palmetto and nettle) and are often very effective at reducing the androgenic symptoms of PCOS.
I know that this does not really answer your question of what works but I wanted to offer some information that might help. Happy holidays to you and yours.
I use, when I can afford it, a shampoo and conditioner called NIOXIN system 2 scalp therapy for fine/noticeably thinning hair. I like it, though I am not sure if it has done much in reversing the issue, I am willing to do whatever to keep it from getting worse! I like the way it smells and tingles, regardless.
This product claims that it "Gently cleanses and removes toxins, residue and DHT (Dihydrotestosterone)".
You can google it. You may be able to order it for less online than at a boutique, but you cannot buy it at Walmart, Costco, etc.
Hope that helps!

Hello Andi,
Thank you for the suggestion for Allison. I hope you are having success with the product. However, keep in mind that you will also want to control how much of testosterone gets converted to DHT that can damage the hair follicle. But I think that you understand this as I read your other post. Low carb can help but you still may need further support when it comes to the hormone imbalance.
Thanks again for sharing. I hope to see more of you within the community. Please let us know how we can support you.

well system 2 is for For Fine, Natural, Noticeably Thinning Hair, that might be to strong for you. There are starter kits available for sale which are much cheaper then regular size bottles. in any case you will only see results after 5-6 months of use. it does not regrow your hair it only stops from falling out

Thank you for posting. However, I am not sure that I have any good recommendations for you. This site is more related hair loss in women with PCOS. If you are looking for products for hair loss, you first have to understand why this is happening. If it is due to higher levels of DHT (di-hydroxytestosterone, which is not uncommon in men) then there are blockers that may be effective. However, some of these have some side effects. If you are looking for more natural therapies, I would consider seeing and naturopathic doctor with a specialty in men's health or you can look on the following site naturopathic.org, for 4 year medically trained naturopathic doctors.
I hope that this helps.
