I am 30 years old i have got two children 6 and 4 and i am hoping to try again
I was dignosed with PCOS last year after going 90 + cycles sometimes.I have always had trouble with my periods since i was young each time i have gone on the pill to kick start my periods and then i seem to get pregnant
Anyway i have lost 4 stone since my daughter who was born in 2005 and my periods have got quite regular since without the use of the pill they come on there own after losing the weight. I am having a period every month the lady who done my scan reckoned i had always had it
I am just wondering if regular periods are a good sign that i am ovulating also when i do get my periods is it possible to see bits of the egg that has been shed by ovalting tmi sorry

Dear Amber26,

Thank you for writing into the forum. I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with PCOS.

However, it sounds like you have made some great changes and lost quite a bit of weight. As you know, losing weight helps to restore a regular period in women that are overweight with PCOS.

Yes, the fact that you are having a regular period makes it likely that you are ovulating.

There are a few ways to tell whether or not you may be ovulating. One is the presence of regular menses. Other signs of ovulation include a shift in the basal body temperature and the presence of fertile cervical fluid (also called "egg white" mucus or spinnbarkeit). You can read more about how to monitor your fertility signs by reading the book “Taking Charge of Your Fertility, 10th Anniversary Edition: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health” by Toni Weschler. I highly recommend reading this book because you will definitely gain a better understanding of your body and optimizing your chances of becoming pregnant. You may also want to check out the following website regarding the Fertility Awareness Method: http://www.ovusoft.com/library/primer002.asp

One way to track your progress is taking your basal body temperature. By doing this you will be able to see if you are ovulating or not. To do this take your temperature under your arms each morning BEFORE rising from bed with a basal body thermometer. Approximately midway through your cycle, depending on how long your cycle is, you should see a rise (around 1 degree F) for 3 days. If so, this is an indication that you have ovulated. Which is great news, because ovulation means you are releasing an egg to be fertilized for conception!

Also, when you have your period what makes up the menstrual loss is the lining of the uterus which contain blood, tissue and cells, etc. You would not see any aspect of the unfertilized egg.

If you continue to struggle, I would recommend considering the Insulite PCOS System. It is a comprehensive, non-pharmaceutical approach to addressing PCOS.

I hope that this helps. We wish you the best.

Hello,

It is nice to hear from you. Thanks for sending the link.

I am not sure what is going on. However, with PCOS, this is not uncommon. Have you ruled out other reasons for infertility? Have you had any testing to determine patency of your tubes, or other anatomical change that may prevent conception? How about your partner, have they been evaluated? With your history, I would imagine it due to PCOS.

I would recommend including taking your basal body temperature as well. This can be another useful step in helping you determine if you are ovulating.

It is important to keep in mind that sometimes the ovulation predictor kits are not as accurate in women with PCOS. The reason is that the kits measure LH levels, these are often higher in women with PCOS. However, with that being said, since you were getting negative results up until that day, it is likely more accurate.

Also, there may be a point where your doctor wants to look at the quality of egg you are producing to be sure that it is ideal for conception. You can ask when this may be considered.

Please let me know if I can help further.
