Is immune system dysfunction responsible for PCOS?

June 2nd, 2009

Slightly technical but certainly worth reading is an article that appears in the most recent issue of PCOS Review.

Based on animal research, the article proposes that PCOS, polycystic ovaries and lack of ovulation could be caused by a dysfunctioning immune system.

I’ve always understood insulin resistance – an imbalance of insulin and glucose – to be one of the leading causes of the condition.

The article, say authors Dr. Nancy Dunne and Research Associate, Bill Slater, “is especially relevant if you plan to have a child.  It’s advisable to normalize your hormones as much as possible before conception and while pregnant.”
